Zillow Joins ChatGPT: A New Era of Home Searching with AI
Starting this week, homebuyers can explore real estate listings in a whole new way—through ChatGPT. Zillow has officially become the first real estate app integrated into OpenAI’s conversational platform, allowing users to search for homes using natural, human-like dialogue.
This move marks a significant step in the evolution of home shopping. “People are already using AI to make everyday decisions,” said Josh Weisberg, Zillow’s head of AI. “By bringing Zillow into ChatGPT, we’re making it just as natural to ask about homes — and simple to take action on Zillow.”
The integration allows users to ask ChatGPT about homes for sale, refine their search criteria, and view property details including photos, maps, and descriptions—all within the chat interface. While actions like scheduling a tour or contacting an agent still happen on Zillow’s platform, the initial search experience is now more intuitive and conversational.
Zillow’s Chief Technology Officer David Beitel emphasized the company’s long-standing commitment to AI. “Our goal is to make it feel simple, intuitive and approachable,” he said. “Partnering with OpenAI puts Zillow at the forefront of generative AI adoption.”
This announcement came alongside OpenAI’s broader rollout of app integrations, which also includes Expedia for travel planning and Spotify for music discovery. OpenAI showcased how professionals, including real estate agents, could use these tools to streamline workflows—like turning outlines into presentations using Canva.
While the Zillow app within ChatGPT mirrors the original platform’s filtering features, it does not yet support new-build listings or 3D tours. However, users can tailor their search results through conversation, making the experience more personalized and efficient.
This integration is part of a larger trend in real estate: embracing AI to simplify complex processes. October is Artificial Intelligence Month at Inman, highlighting how agents, brokerages, and startups are leveraging AI to transform the industry.
As AI continues to reshape how we interact with technology, Zillow’s move into ChatGPT signals a future where home searching is not just digital—but conversational, intelligent, and user-friendly.
